A brutal civil war, spanning over 25 years forced families in Sri Lanka to flee to India in search of safety. Now many are preparing to return home, but in doing so face numerous challenges. One of the biggest hurdles to resettling in Sri Lanka is obtaining the proper documentation – a birth certificate for a child born in India is essential for citizenship, schooling and medical care.
